Why community.commonground.nl?

This community site is just an experiment.

We need a place to have conversations.
There’s Slack, but that requires an invite to join the discussion. Slack conversations are short-lived and eventually purged (because: jay, free slack!). Slack is great for day-to-day team conversations, but doesn’t work for ‘customer support’ and cross-team discussion.
Then there are github/gitlab issues. These work well for small discussions, but are scattered over several projects and are mostly focused on the project that owns them, which they should. There’s also Pleio, which is great for news and as a front-page, but it doesn’t seem to catch on as a place for discussion.

We need a place to communicate about new releases.
Our users are not notified when we push a new release, which is bad. They may not know that a feature they’ve been waiting on has been created. We could setup a mailing list, but that’s very one-way and doesn’t give new users the complete history of the project.

This community site is just an experiment.
